to:info-en@wikimedia.org Subject: Captchas and Accessibility A year ago I tried to create an account and was unable to do so because of the many captchas involved in the process. (I am totally blind.) I couldn't even put in a request for help because such submissions also involve a captcha. Somehow I got in contact with one of your administrators, perhaps through a public email like this, and he created an account for me. username=Eklhad Fair enough. That was a one-time hassle and I thought that was the end of it, but the problems persist. I cannot edit my article, or anybody's article, or make a submission, or ask a question, or anything, without running into more captchas. Once the account is created I believe these security measures should stop, or at the very least they should stop for my account or other such flagged accounts. I have already logged in with my password; that should be sufficient; I shouldn't need to verify every submission with a captcha. That's my opinion anyways, and if you disagree I understand, but that means your website is entirely inaccessible to me, at least as a contributor. Some sites provide audio captchas as an alternative, although they have their limitations. I hope you can resolve this issue. A website such as yours, with global visibility, should also be a leader in the area of accessibility. Meantime I guess I'll ask my wife to help me make the small change I want to make.
